Nelly Kim Furtado was born on December 2, 1978 in Victoria, British Columbia. In a sense, Furtado??s future musical success seemed assured: her family, of Portuguese descent, was very musical. At the age of four, she performed a duet with her mother at church in celebration of Portugal Day. She was part of a jazz band, a concert band, and a marching band in addition to appearing in school plays and musicals. When Furtado was eight, she received a tape recorder and microphone as a gift. This gift and her fascination with hip-hop groups such as TLC, Bel Biv Devoe, Ice-T, and Mariah Carey led her to experiment with the sampling techniques used by those acts. When she was 18, Furtado entered a talent show for young female urban performers held in Toronto, the Honey Jam.

After that in 1997, she performed for honey jam talent show where she was attracted by Gerald Eaton. She contacted her to write for him and she agreed. Later on with the help of him she recorded her first single “Party's just Begun (again)” in 1999.

Nelly Furtado biography includes her first album with Eaton and West Named “Whoa, Nelly!” which was released in October 2000. It was a success internationally. The famous songs were “I am like a bird”, “Turn off the light” and “Shit on the radio”. For this album she was nominated for Gammy in 2002 and also won best female pop vocal performance. Her 2nd album named “Folklore” was released in 2003. This album includes the song “Forca” which was the official song for the European Football Championship 2004.
