Katherine Jenkins Biography

Name : Katherine Jenkins
Born : 29 June 1980
Occupation : Singer

Katherine Jenkins was born on June 29, 1980, in Neath, West Glamorgan, Wales. Growing up in a council house (a kind of public housing building common in the UK), Katherine was first attracted to pop music. But by the time she was 7, Katherine had fallen in love with classical music. She took piano lessons and joined the local choir.

For the next 10 years, Katherine distinguished herself locally as a chorister, competing -- and often winning -- various competitions for Choirgirl of the Year. Starting in 1990, Katherine was a member of the Royal School of Church Music Cathedral Singers for six years. She also spent three years as a member of the National Youth Choir of Wales. The death of her father, Selwyn Jenkins, spurred her to pursue music even more passionately, and when she was 17, she won a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Since then she has become the official mascot for the Wales rugby team. Before the 2003 Rugby World Cup she recorded the Welsh team's official song, a version of Bread Of Heaven backed by a 100-piece male voice choir. Prior to that, she'd sung the Welsh national anthem Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium before the Wales/England game.In 2004 she performed at Westminster Cathedral, Sydney Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall and Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. In October the same year, Katherine's second album, Second Nature, was released, reaching number 16 in the UK pop charts.

2005 saw appearances at Tsunami Relief Cardiff and the G8 concert, Live 8, in Berlin. Katherine also became the new forces' sweetheart, performing at the VE Day anniversary concert at Trafalgar Square, at which she was introduced by Dame Vera Lynn. She went on to perform for the troops in Iraq in December 2005 and 2006.

Katherine Heigl Biography

Birth Name : Katherine Marie Heigl
Date of Birth : 24 November 1978, Washington, District of Columbia, USA
Height : 5' 9" (1.75 m)
Occupation : Actress, producer

Katherine Marie Heigl was born in Washington, DC, on November 24, 1978, to Nancy Heigl and Paul Heigl. A short time afterward, the family moved to New Canaan, Connecticut, where Katherine was to spend the majority of her childhood; the youngest member of her family, Katherine--or "Katie" as she is nicknamed--has two elder siblings, John and Meg. Tragically, her older brother Jason died in 1986 of brain injuries suffered in a car accident, after being thrown from the back of a pickup truck. When doctors determined he was brain-dead, the family made the difficult decision to donate his organs.

With a beauty harkening back to old Hollywood, Katherine Heigl - a onetime Sears catalog child model who later paid her dues as a decidedly less-than-glamorous slasher film victim - finally earned widespread acclaim for her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens on the award-winning medical drama, "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC, 2005- ). She took Hollywood by surprise with her starring role in Judd Apatow's critically-hailed and hugely successful "Knocked Up" (2007), and proved her big screen star power was no fluke with the huge box office of "27 Dresses" (2008) and "The Ugly Truth" (2009). In addition to her onscreen work, Heigl also became infamous for a willingness to speak her mind at the expense of playing the game, earning her both respect and censure. This trait burned her "Grey's" bridges as she jumped full-time into film acting - and motherhood to an adopted special-needs baby - but Heigl proved that she was more interested in following her own instincts rather than pleasing critics.

Karolina Kurkova Biography

Birth Name : Karolina Isela Kurkova
Date of Birth : 28 February 1984, Decin, Czechoslovakia
Height : 5' 11" (1.80 m)
Best known as : The supermodel

Born in the town of Decin, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) on February 28th, 1984, Karolina Kurkova had a slight taste of what celebrity would be like, as her father Josef Kurka was a star basketball player. As a child, her height made her relatively awkward and gangly, but that would all change with age.

A close friend recognized her beauty and sent photos of Karolina Kurkova to an agency in Prague. Kurkova immediately landed a runway appearance, not to mention a commercial and print ad. Still, being a model in the Czech Republic did not expose her to what fashion was really about, so Kurkova took a chance and traveled to Milan to gain some more experience.

A move to the Big Apple and hectic work schedule ensued. It all paid off when Kurkova finally made her presence known in the February 2001 issue of Vogue. One of the youngest models ever to grace its cover, the magazine helped propel her to stardom. She was now recognized at haute couture fashion shows and Victoria's Secret swept her up and chose her to be part of that year's television special, in November. Even fashion houses like Yves Saint Laurent took note of the stunning beauty and proceeded to sign Kurkova to deals. Print campaigns for Tommy, Valentino and others helped expose Karolina Kurkova even more, while she headlined the second Victoria's Secret show the following year. The constant flow of work (she is said to have worked 23 weeks straight) was recognized by Vogue as they honored her with the "Model of the Year" title at the 2002 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards.

Juliette Lewis Biography

Name : Juliette Lewis
Date of Birth : 21 June 1973, Los Angeles, California, USA
Height : 5' 6" (1.68 m)
Occupation Actress/Musician

Juliette Lewis has been recognized as one of Hollywood's most talented and versatile actors of her generation since she first stunned audiences and critics alike with her Oscar-nominated performance as "Danielle Bowden" in Cape Fear (1991). To date, she has worked with some of the most revered directors in the industry, including Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Lasse Hallström, Oliver Stone and Garry Marshall. Whether lending dramatic authenticity or a natural comedic flair to her roles, Lewis graces the screen with remarkable range and an original and captivating style.

Lewis was back on the road in Oliver Stone's satirical take on the media,"Natural Born Killers" (1994), where she shared sociopathic tendencies with fellow love-thug Woody Harrelson during a Southwest killing spree. To her credit, Lewis ably captured the frighteningly odd emptiness of her character's moral inattention. Tucked amidst these on-the-edge roles was an atypically sweet, subtle turn with Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio in Lasse Hallstrom's engaging and offbeat family drama "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (1993). Following a brief return to comedy in Nora Ephron's cringe-worthy holiday ensemble "Mixed Nuts" (1994), Lewis reteamed with DiCaprio in "Basketball Diaries" (1995), where she returned to her familiar low-life terrain with a small role as a drug addict and hooker. She gave audiences an early taste of her singing talent in Kathryn Bigelow's stylish sci-fi thriller "Strange Days" (1995), and held her place on the outskirts of mainstream film with an appearance in the Robert Rodriquez/Quentin Tarantino vampire outing, "From Dusk 'Til Dawn" (1996). Unfortunately, the fast pace of Lewis' personal life was mimicking her out-of-control onscreen reality, and she could no longer hide her drug addiction by the time she was cast in the "Terms of Endearment" (1983) sequel "The Evening Star" (1996) as a substance abuser.

Julie Benz Biography

Birth Name : Julie M. Benz

The family settled in nearby Murrysville, when Julie was two, and she started ice skating at age three. Her older brother and sister, Jeffrey and Jennifer, were in the 1987 U.S. Junior Champions in ice dancing and competed internationally. When Julie was 14, she had a bad stress fracture and had to take time off.

By 1989, with her figure skating career over, Julie turned to acting and got involved in the local theater where she got a role in the play "Street Law". Her first movie role was a small, credited, speaking part in in the Black Cat episode in the Dario Argento/George A. Romero co-direction horror flick, Two Evil Eyes (1990) playing in one scene alongside Harvey Keitel. A year later, she got a role on a TV show called "Hi Honey, I'm Home" (1991).

An adventurous supporting actress who specialized in deeply complex and often flawed characters, Julie Benz captured audiences' attention with roles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (The WB, 1997-2003), "Angel" (The WB, 1999-2004) and "Dexter" (Showtime, 2006- ). A former competitive ice skater, she abandoned sports after an injury to pursue acting. Bit parts on television series led to her breakthrough role as the malevolent vampiress Darla on "Buffy" and "Angel." Benz's physical beauty was an occasional obstacle in finding projects of substance, but she eventually landed another standout character in Rita, the reluctant lover and spouse of Michael C. Hall's Dexter. These and other projects, which included stints in comedy, science fiction, horror and sudsy dramas, proved that Benz was one of the most versatile performers on the small screen.
