It didn't take long for Brewster to get noticed by accomplished director Robert Rodriguez. He cast Brewster in his feature film The Faculty (1998) as Delilah Profitt, the head cheerleader and editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. Brewster appeared on an MTV special about The Faculty (1998) called "Invasion of the Fright Films" and Tommy Hilfiger used the cast of The Faculty (1998) to advertise clothing.
Soon after The Faculty (1998) was released in theaters, Brewster signed on to play a major role in the tv miniseries The 60s. The role was thought to be her last film before she was to go to college at Yale after having deferred for a year, but she was picked to play opposite Cameron Diaz in the movie adaptation of the book The Invisible Circus (2001).
Brewster then took a variety of courses at Yale including film studies, English, sociology, and electrical engineering, graduating in the Yale Class of 2003. She has since returned to acting, with lead roles in D.E.B.S. (2004), Annapolis (2006) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) (both 2006).
