Ginnifer Michelle Goodwin was born on 22nd May 1978, in Memphis, Tennessee. Bright and talented, Ginnifer carried her love for theater and acting through her high school years. She graduated from Lausanne Collegiate School in 1996 and spent a year at Hanover before going to Boston University where she received her BFA in Acting. She went on to receive accolades in London, including receiving a Certificate from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and trained with the Royal Shakespeare Company. She lived briefly in New York before moving to California where she currently lives. She made her television debut on the series "Law & Order" (1990) but had her first recurring television role on "Ed" (2000) in 2001. Her first movie role was Maya in the first Comedy Central original movie Porn 'n Chicken (2002) (TV). She then went on to shine as Connie Baker in the major motion picture hit Mona Lisa Smile (2003).

A Shakespearean-trained actress, Ginnifer Goodwin made a name for herself on some of television's more unusual and creative hour-long series. She was barely out of her teens when she landed a supporting role as a wry, intellectual high school student in the quirky small town comedy, "Ed" (NBC, 2000-04). She appeared on film in a number of supporting comic roles and played the spurned first wife of Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line" (2005) before scoring a lead on HBO's highly acclaimed series "Big Love" (HBO, 2006- ), starring as one of three wives in a polygamist family. Her real big screen breakthrough came in the form of 2009's romantic comedy "He's Just Not That Into You," which showcased the actress' appealing blend of brains and indie-girl cuteness. Goodwin's casting in that film alongside popular comediennes Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Aniston heralded the arrival of a young new contender in Hollywood.

In 2008 MaxMara honored Goodwin with a "Face of the Future" award, an award recognizing up and coming women in film. Also, Goodwin was one of the celebrities featured in Gap's Fall 2008 ad campaign.

In 2011 Goodwin plays Mary Margaret Blanchard, a teacher in Storybrooke, Maine, as well as fairy tale heroine Snow White, in the revisionist fantasy adventure television program, Once Upon a Time, which debuted on ABC. That same year, she played Rachel in Something Borrowed.
