Pink Biography

Birth Name : Alecia Beth Moore
Date of Birth : 8 September 1979, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, USA
Height : 5' 4" (1.63 m)
Occupations : Singer-songwriter, musician, dancer, actress

Alecia "Pink" Moore was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and later raised in Philadelphia. Her parents, James and Judy Moore, divorced when she was very young. As a child, all Pink wanted out of life was to become a singer, and she was driven by the music of Madonna, Mary J. Blige, 4 Non Blondes, Janis Joplin, Billy Joel and Whitney Houston. Pink was a very unique teenager, and went through phases as a skateboarder, hip-hopper and gymnast. She spent several years as part of the club scene in Philadelphia, singing guest spots and performing for talent shows. At the age of 13 she was asked by a local DJ to sing back-up for his rap group, Schools Of Thought. A short time later she was discovered by a record executive and joined a female R&B group.

It was apparent, however, that Pink had a talent for music. By chance one evening, an executive from MCA took notice of the sassy teenager and asked her to audition for an R&B group that was forming. The group, known as Basic Instinct, welcomed Pink into the fold. Despite a record deal and plenty of studio time, the band never could find traction. Basic Instinct disbanded just two years after it was assembled. A second run with another R&B band, this one called Choice, also came to a quick end in 1998.

For Pink, though, neither experience was a disaster. Her talent was too hard not to notice, and with the support of LaFace, Choice's former label, she struck out on her own. She changed her name from Alecia Moore to her stage name of Pink, and started recording her first solo album, Can't Take Me Home. Released in 2000, the record was a surprise smash hit, going double-platinum and creating three Top 10 singles: "Most Girls", "You Make Me Sick", and "There You Go." It was a record that was bolstered by her tour schedule, which found her opening up for popular boy band 'N Sync.

Penny Lancaster Biography

Name : Penny Lancaster
Date of Birth : 15 March 1971, Chelmsford, Essex, England, UK
Height : 6' 1" (1.85 m)
Occupation : English model

Born on March 15, 1971, in Chelmsford, Essex, England, we need not look far to discover where Penny Lancaster got her athletic ability and love for fitness. Both her parents were avid gym-goers throughout her childhood, and her brother Oliver achieved his longtime goal of becoming a fitness instructor. Heavily involved in dance -- tap, ballet and modern -- from the age of 6 onward, Lancaster had early dreams of becoming a professional. By the time she was 16 years old, however, Penny was so lithe and tall that she felt aerobics, not dance, would be a better route. Six years later, Lancaster was so dedicated to aerobics and the lifestyle that came with it that she decided to turn this love into a career.

Lancaster gained boost when she was hired as the face of designer lingerie brand Ultimo for a reported £200,000 in 2002. Despite her success at promoting the brand and rising its profile in the UK, her contract was not renewed when it ended in 2004. In the meantime, she also worked as a photographer for “Hello! Magazine.”

Barely flustered by her want of modeling work, Lancaster turned to her other passion, aerobics, and created a fitness DVD called “Ultimate Body Workout” (2003). The training tape, which detailed her years of knowledge as a fitness trainer, sold extremely well. Around this time, she sang and danced in “Tonight's The Night,” a musical based on Rod Stewart's hits, for a charity event.

In 2005, Lancaster led a line of hair removal products called “Hot Legs,” Stewart's nickname for her and the title of one of his many hit songs. In 2007, Lancaster became one of 14 celebrities to participate on “Strictly Come Dancing Series Five,” a British television show featuring celebrities with professional dance partners competing in Ballroom and Latin dances. She and her partner, Ian Waite, were voted off in the Week 6.

Despite the hardships of her physical environment, she enjoyed the loving support of her grandmother and the church community, who cherished her as a gifted child.

In 2006, rappers Ludacris, 50 Cent and Ice Cube criticized Winfrey for what they perceived as an anti-hip hop bias. In an interview with GQ magazine, Ludacris said that Winfrey gave him a "hard time" about his lyrics, and edited comments he made during an appearance on her show with the cast of the film Crash. He also claimed that he wasn't initially invited on the show with the rest of the cast. Winfrey responded by saying that she is opposed to rap lyrics that "marginalize women", but enjoys some artists, including Kanye West, who appeared on her show. She said she spoke with Ludacris backstage after his appearance to explain her position, and said she understood that his music was for entertainment purposes, but that some of his listeners might take it literally. Although Obama appeared twice on her show, these appearances were prior to his declaring himself a candidate.
