Ellen DeGeneres Biography

NAME: Ellen DeGeneres
OCCUPATION: Animal Rights Activist, Comedian, Talk Show Host
BIRTH DATE: January 26, 1958 (Age: 53)
EDUCATION: Atlanta High School, Grace King High School, University of New Orleans
PLACE OF BIRTH: Metairie, Louisiana

Ellen Lee DeGeneres was born January 26, 1958 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the daughter of an insurance salesman and a working mother who were divorced when DeGeneres was a teenager. When she was growing up she dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, but she gave up the idea because she was "not book smart." Instead, she waited tables, sold vacuum cleaners, painted houses, worked as a legal secretary.

DeGeneres' older brother, Vance, was the creator of the Play-Doh character "Mr. Bill" on the long-running NBC comedy skit program Saturday Night Live, and was long considered the humorous member of the family. Then once, during a public speaking event, DeGeneres found herself frightened by the crowd and used humor to get through the experience. She was a hit, and received offers to do stand-up comedy. She began performing in 1981, bolstered by her mother's moral and financial support.

Comedian and actress Ellen DeGeneres was best known for her groundbreaking sitcom "Ellen" (ABC, 1994-98) and her lively daytime talk show "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (syndicated, 2003- ), which earned multiple Daytime Emmy Awards for Best Talk Show and Best Talk Show Host. DeGeneres started her career as a stand-up comedian, eventually parlaying her deadpan, observational style into a sitcom which made TV history for the coming out of its main character - a gay Ellen both on and off screen. The controversial, groundbreaking move effectively spelled the end of DeGeneres' sitcom career in 1998, but the down-to-earth - if not a little neurotic - talent rebounded a few years later as the move-busting host of a talk show bursting with A-list celebrities and a boisterous audience full of soccer moms. The sparkling blue-eyed blonde was also well-liked as the host of both Emmy and Academy Awards telecasts. It was, in fact, hard to find anyone who did not like DeGeneres, such was her good-hearted nature both on and off screen, as well as her pride in her sexual orientation, but her refusal to force it in people's faces. She was the harmless, funny best friend everyone wished they could have and no amount of scandals - including a WGA strike picket-line crossing and the dramatic break-up of her often-chronicled relationship with actress Anne Heche - could tarnish the love fans held for the classy comic.

Elle Macpherson Biography

NAME: Elle Macpherson
OCCUPATION: Model
BIRTH DATE: March 29, 1964
EDUCATION: Sydney University
PLACE OF BIRTH: Sidney, Australia

Model, actress. Born Eleanor Nancy Gow on March 29, 1964 in Sydney, Australia. Nicknamed "The Body," the six-foot-tall Macpherson is one of a handful of figures credited with putting the "super" in the word "supermodel."

Even prior to her ascendancy to modeling fame, Macpherson was no stranger to the high life. After her parents divorced in her early teens, her mother remarried multimillionaire Neil Macpherson, the owner of a chain of stereo equipment stores.

Like so many of her contemporaries, Sports Illustrated??s swimsuit edition was her springboard to public fame. The powerful, athletic Macpherson graced four SI covers (1986-1988, 1994) . In addition to appearances in the mainstay publications of the modeling world, Macpherson parleyed her SI success into contracts with Victoria's Secret and Playboy. For her work in the latter, she netted a whopping $25,000 per page. The spread was ten pages long.

But by the mid-1990s, she turned her attention to acting. She appeared in several films, including ‘Sirens’ (1995), ‘Batman and Robin’ (1997) and most recently ‘A Girl Thing’ (2001), a miniseries for the Showtime Network. She also appeared in a series of episodes of the hit TV sitcom ‘Friends’. Critical response to her dramatic attempts was at best mixed, and at worst, unflattering.

Macpherson also experienced mixed success in the business arena. Her personal line of lingerie, Elle Macpherson Intimates, is the top selling brand in Australia. However, her partnership with fellow supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell in the creation of the Fashion Café was less fruitful. The troubled restaurant venture went into receivership in 2000.

Building on her business successes with Intimates, Elle also released her own range of beauty products ‘Elle Macpherson – The Body’ in 2005, which sparked an appearance on the BBC’s 'The Money Programme', following her in her day-to-day life running a business.

In 2002, Elle appeared in Daddy Day Care, her first film independent of her sister and the first performance for which she received a Young Artist Award nomination. In 2003, Elle starred in The Door in the Floor, with Kim Basinger and Jeff Bridges. The producers had apparently originally planned on using identical twins for the shooting of the film since it was set to be a long, intense project however, they were so impressed by Elle that they chose her instead for the film.

By the end of 2006, Fanning began to book lead roles. The first of these was the one of Emma Learner in Reservation Road—the grieving daughter of Grace and Ethan Learner. The film deals with the aftermath of a tragic car accident in that Emma's brother is killed. Late in 2008, Fanning had a small part in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button as a younger version of Cate Blanchett's character. Mid-year 2007, Fanning filmed the title role Phoebe of Phoebe in Wonderland—the fantastical tale of a little girl who won't—or can't—follow the rules. Elizabeth Hurley Biography

Birth Name : Elizabeth Jane Hurley
Date of Birth : 10 June 1965, Basingstoke, Hampshire, England, UK
Height : 5' 8" (1.73 m)
Occupation : Actress, model

Being declared one of the sexiest women in film history by Empire magazine would be a title which many actresses would find difficult to live up to, but Elizabeth Hurley was unlike most of the models-turned-movie stars that preceded her. Not only blessed with high cheek bones and a curvy physique, she was also blessed with a sharp business sense, innate intelligence, as well as an almost supernatural ability to remain poised in the face of ugly controversies. These scandals would come fast in furious, including the infamous arrest of her then-boyfriend, actor Hugh Grant, for soliciting a prostitute, followed a few years later with an ugly paternity suit against millionaire Stephen Bing over the birth of their child in 2001. Despite these high profile setbacks, Hurley remained a popular model with her years-long contract with Estee Lauder, as well as maintained a modest career as an actress and producer, most notably starring as Vanessa Kensington, the knockout agent paired with Mike Meyers in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" (1997).

In 2002, she gave birth to a baby boy, Damian Charles, and hit the headlines once more when multi-millionaire Steve Bing initially denied being the father. However, a DNA test established the Hollywood producer, who is the grandson of New York real estate magnate Leo Bing, as the child's father.

In March 2007, Hurley married Indian businessman Arun Nayar in a secret service in Gloucestershire. The couple decided to keep the ceremony private so held it one day early but with only the guests being informed of this change in date. Hurley contracted an exclusive magazine deal with magazine Hello!, thought to be worth £2 to 5 million with the overall cost of the wedding being estimated at a total of £2 million.

Despite her demanding social and personal engagements, the model is also keen to give back to the community and is the president of the charity Hop Skip and Jump, which provides day care for children with special needs and support for their families. In November 2010, Hurley attended the Houses of Parliament where she spoke about the need for more relief day care.

Elizabeth Berkley Biography

Name : Elizabeth Berkley
Date of Birth : 28 July 1972, Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA
Height : 5' 10" (1.78 m)
Occupation : Actress

Born in Farmington Hills, Michigan on July 28th, 1972, baby Elizabeth Berkley showed an early aptitude for dance. At age five, her parents enrolled her at the Detroit Dance Company. As her love for dance grew with the years, she began performing at high-profile shows such as Swan Lake, which attracted large audiences. As talent scouts started to frequent her shows, her parents were able to land her parts on TV shows such as Gimme a Break! and Silver Spoons, when she was seven years old.

Fans of the saccharine-sweet teen sitcom “Saved by the Bell” (NBC, 1989-1992) would have been hard pressed to pick out Elizabeth Berkley as the star who would make the biggest name for herself, albeit, somewhat notoriously. After four years of watching Berkley’s caricatured portrayal of a high school feminist, no one could guess that the buxom blonde would, with one role, be the one to immediately re-define herself as a garish stripper in one of the most-ridiculed – yet secretly adored – movies ever made. Since careers have ended over less, Berkley’s patient rehabilitation of her image thereafter was only slightly less surprising, but admirable, at the same time.

Despite the Hollywood backlash she received post-“Showgirls,” she continued to find work on stage, on television and in films, albeit in smaller roles and/or productions. With new representation, she landed a role as Victor Garber's actress-girlfriend in "The First Wives Club" (1996) and the lead in Tom DeCillo's "The Real Blonde" (1998). She earned praise for her stage performances in a 1999 London production of “Lenny” as the stripper Honey opposite Eddie Izzard in a stage play about comic Lenny Bruce and in the 2005 off-Broadway production of “Hurlyburly,” as well as in several independent films including Woody Allen's “The Curse of the Jade Scorpion” (2001) and the critical darling, “Roger Dodger” (2002). Berkley also appeared on Broadway in “Sly Fox,” but reviews of her performance were unfavorable. Despite these setbacks, it was a test of her character and determination that, even with the unshakable “Showgirls” stigma surrounding her at all times, she managed to press on and find work.

Elizabeth Banks Bipgraphy

Birth Name : Elizabeth Maresal Mitchell
Date of Birth : 10 February 1974, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA
Height : 5' 5" (1.65 m)
Occupation : Actress

Originally from Massachusetts, Elizabeth Banks received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, then went on to earn a graduate degree at the American Conservatory Theater. Her first film role was in the indie film, Surrender Dorothy (1998). She next landed a small role in the Hollywood blockbuster Shaft (1999), starring Samuel L. Jackson. On television, she made guest appearances on hit shows such as Third Watch (1999), Sex and The City (2000), and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2001), before landing several more roles in big budget motion pictures such as Spider-Man (2002) starring Tobey Maguire, Swept Away (2002) starring Madonna, and Catch Me If You Can (2002) starring Leonard DiCaprio.

Before she was a recognizable name, Elizabeth Banks was a familiar face in scene-stealing comic cameos and memorable dramatic roles opposite high-profile actors like Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeff Bridges and Mark Wahlberg. Her fresh-scrubbed New England looks and girl-next-door appeal were refreshingly countered with her adventurous tomboy spirit and fearless embrace of over-the-top goofiness. A stage-trained actress with a fun-loving attitude towards a big screen career, Banks' energy and versatile talent were finally featured front and center in the popular but very different comedies "Slither" (2006) and "Definitely, Maybe" (2008). Prior to those two roles, she gained widespread recognition for playing Betty Brant in "Spider-Man" (2002), which she reprised for the second (2004) and third (2007) installments. After returning to comedy opposite Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti in "Fred Claus" (2007), Banks was surprisingly convincing as former First Lady Laura Bush in Oliver Stone's "W" (2008). Whether comedy or drama, Banks always delivered a quality performance while continually broadening her appeal.

Eliza Dushku Bipgraphy

Birth Name : Eliza Patricia Dushku
Date of Birth : 30 December 1980, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Nickname : Duck Shoot (bestowed on her by Kevin Smith)
Height : 5' 5" (1.65 m)
Occupation : Actress

Born of Albanian-Danish descent in Boston, MA, on December 30, 1980, Dushku grew up the youngest sibling of three older brothers. Following her debut in That Night, which cast her as a young girl who becomes infatuated with the rebellious teen who lives across the street, the young actress did supporting work in This Boy's Life (1993) and played the daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies (1994). In 1998 Dushku got one of her biggest breaks to date when she was cast as troubled slayer Faith on Buffy. Although Faith was only meant to appear in a handful of episodes, the show's creators liked Dushku enough to make Faith a recurring character, and also featured her on Angel, Buffy's spin-off.

Her turn as the feisty Dana Tasker in "Lies" seemed to set a career path for her subsequent roles. Dushku was soon cast in a string of headstrong roles in minor features like "Bye Bye Love" (1995) and "Race the Sun" (1996). Rather than continue in this vein, Dushku took time off from her career to complete high school, after which she gained acceptance at both George Washington University and Suffolk University, where her mother served as a professor.

Duskhu continued to explore the indie film world for her next few efforts; she received solid reviews for her turn as a poet with a crush on a kidnapped college student in "Nobel Son" (2008), and reunited with several of that film's stars, including Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman, for the equally praised comedy "Bottle Shock" (2008). She also gained notice for both her performance and an unexpected nude scene in "The Alphabet Killer" (2008), a gritty thriller about a rash of real-life unsolved murders in New York during the 1970s, which also served as her debut as producer. But most of these efforts were overshadowed by the news that the actress had signed a development deal with Fox in 2007. Her first effort towards a new series was "Nurses" (2007), a pilot for director P.J. Hogan about the personal lives of hospital nurses, but it failed to progress beyond that phase.

Eliza Doolittle Bipgraphy

Birth name : Eliza Sophie Caird
Born : 15 April 1988 (age 23)
Occupations : Singer-songwriter

Eliza Sophie Caird (born 15 April 1988), better known by her stage name Eliza Doolittle, is an English singer songwriter from London. She signed to the Parlophone record label in October 2008. Her debut, self-titled album, Eliza Doolittle was released on 12 July 2010. On debut it was number 3 in the UK charts. Since the album’s release, Doolittle has had another two of her records hit the top 25 charts, including her single Skinny Genes. Doolittle’s second single, Pack Up, has debuted in the Top 20 for the Single Top 100 and Irish Singles Charts, and in the Top 5 in the UK Singles Chart.

Her precocious songwriting talent soon got her noticed, with Eliza signing a publishing deal at 16. As she matured, her songs began to flower into the magical blooms they are today – gorgeous pop songs which mine sounds from the 60’s and 70’s while managing to sound indisputably fresh. Little wonder: although a diehard fan of classic pop in all its guises – the likes of the Beach Boys, The Kinks, and Stevie Wonder slip in constantly while she gushes about music – she doesn’t see herself belonging to the current cut and dried pop mould. “I’d like to be a pop musician in the proper old school vein of pop when there weren’t any different genres like there are now, it was all just pop music,” she says. Of current influences, she demurs that she can’t really think of any. “There’s lots of things I do like, like Vampire Weekend, Kid Harpoon, or Arctic Monkeys, but I don’t sound like them at all”, she insists.

Eliza Doolittle's first release was a self-titled EP featuring four tracks, including 'Rollerblades', 'Moneybox', 'Police Car' and 'Go Home'. The EP was released in November 2009. Jamie from The XX remixed 'Money Box' and the tracks on the EP received airplay on a number of BBC Radio 1 shows, including Rob Da Bank's, Jo Whiley's and Nick Grimshaw's. Following the release of her album, Eliza Doolittle was also booked to support Paloma Faith on her November 2010 tour. Eliza Doolittle has been compared to Paloma Faith, as well as other female contemporaries such as Lily Allen. Prior to her mainstream success, Doolittle had undertaken a tour of the nation's secondary schools, dubbed the 'Playground Unplugged' tour.

Doolittle has supported her studio releases with live gigs supporting the likes of Jamie Cullum and Alphabeat. Her first single proper was 'Skinny Genes', which was released in April 2010. The song has been used on a TV advert for very.co.uk. The second single from Eliza Doolittle is entitled 'Pack Up' and was released in July 2010, reaching number 12 in the UK Singles chart.

Elisha Cuthbert Biography

Birth Name : Elisha Ann Cuthbert
Date of Birth : November 30, 1982
Birth Place : Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Occupation : Actress

Elisha Ann Cuthbert was born on November 30, 1982, in Calgary, Alberta. As a child, Elisha’s cherubic looks made her a natural candidate for modeling, and it wasn’t long before she was posing in advertisements for various children’s clothing lines. Elisha, who grew up in Montreal, subsequently began to express an interest in acting; in 1996, she made her professional debut on the popular Canadian anthology series Are You Afraid of the Dark? Elisha Cuthbert’s bubbly demeanor and natural on-camera style made her an ideal fit for the role of host on the show Popular Mechanics for Kids, where she worked side-by-side with fellow up-and-coming performers like Jay Baruchel and Vanessa Lengies.

Blessed with undeniable all-American good looks, despite hailing from Canada, this blond-haired, blue-eyed actress initially gained fame playing Kiefer Sutherland’s rebellious daughter, Kimberly Bauer, on the mega-hit series “24” (Fox, 2002- ). As the scion of counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer (Sutherland), Cuthbert found herself the perpetual victim of kidnappers, terrorists, armed robbers, and, at one point, even a cougar. The constant perils that befell her character spawned a passionate fan following who watched every episode in anticipation of what might happen to her next, but also won the actress her fair share of detractors. Either way, the show successfully helped launch Cuthbert as one of the new millennium’s starlets on the rise – enough that she was able to launch a film career as well, starring in such hits as “Old School” (2002), “Love Actually” (2003) and “The Girl Next Door” (2004).

Cuthbert appeared in the music video for Weezer's "Perfect Situation" in early 2006, where she played the group's fictional original singer who threw a tantrum that led to Rivers Cuomo, the unlikely roadie, becoming the frontman of the band. Cuthbert also had a small role in Paris Hilton's music video for the song "Nothing In This World".

In 2007, Cuthbert appeared in the film, Captivity, a thriller centered around a fashion model taunted by a psychopath who has imprisoned her in a cellar, a role for which she was nominated for a Razzie award as "worst actress."

Dwayne Douglas Johnson was born in Hayward, California on May 2nd 1972 to Rocky Johnson and Ata Johnson. While growing up, Dwayne traveled around a lot with his parents and watched his father perform in the ring. During his high school years, Dwayne began playing football and he soon received a full scholarship from the University of Miami where he had tremendous success as a football player. In 1995, Dwayne suffered a back injury which cost him a place in the NFL. He then signed a 3 year deal with the Canadian League but left after a year to pursue a career in wrestling. He made his wrestling debut in the USWA under the name Flex Kavanah where he won the tag team championship with Brett Sawyer. In 1996, Dwayne joined the WWE and became Rocky Maivia where he joined a group known as "The Nation of Domination" and turned heel. Rocky eventually took over leadership of the "Nation" and began taking the persona of The Rock. After the "Nation" split, The Rock joined another elite group of wrestlers known as the "Corporation" and began a memorable feud with Steve Austin. Soon the Rock was kicked out of the "Corporation". He turned face and became known as "The Peoples Champion". In 2000, the Rock took time off from WWE to film his appearance in The Mummy Returns (2001). He returned in 2001 during the WCW/ECW invasion where he joined a team of WWE wrestlers at The Scorpion King (2002), a prequel to The Mummy Returns (2001). He is divorced from his first wife Dany Garcia (Garcia). They have a daughter together named Simone Alexandra, born in 2001.

Actor Dwayne Johnson started his showbiz career as "The Rock," one of the most decorated champions in the Worldwide Wrestling Federation and one of the its most popular characters, before applying his commanding presence and personal charisma into a successful film acting career. A bona fide pop culture figure, Johnson attracted impressive box office numbers to action and sports-oriented films like "The Scorpion King" (2002) and "Gridiron Gang" (2006), but over time, also proved himself to be an adroit comedic player with a surprisingly light tough. In fact, he memorably hosted "Saturday Night Live" (NBC, 1975- ), which included a hilarious parody of The Hulk called "The Rock Obama." But it was on the big screen that he made his biggest impression with turns in "The Rundown" (2003) and "Walk Tall" (2004). Johnson took a slight detour with the huge family comedy success "The Game Plan" (2007) and the summer comedy hit "Get Smart" (2008), though he endured some ridicule for starring in "Race to Witch Mountain" (2009) and "Tooth Fairy" (2010). Johnson was back on track with "Faster" (2010) and the huge hit "Fast Five" (2011), both of which confirmed his status as a top action star.

Duffy Biography

Birth name : Aimée Ann Duffy
Born : 23 June 1984 (age 27)
Origin : Nefyn, Gwynedd, Wales
Occupations : Singer-songwriter, actress

Aimée Ann Duffy (born 23 June 1984), known as Duffy, is a Welsh singer-songwriter. Her 2008 debut album Rockferry entered the UK Album Chart at number one. It was the best-selling album in the United Kingdom in 2008 with 1.68 million copies sold. The album was certified several times Platinum and sold over 6 million copies worldwide, spawning the hits "Mercy" and "Warwick Avenue". With "Mercy", Duffy became the first Welsh woman to achieve number-one on the UK Singles Chart since Bonnie Tyler topped the charts with "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in 1983.

Duffy was elected president of the Students Union at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, before transferring to study in Chester where she built up a following in a local jazz and blues club. She recorded a CD of three songs in Welsh in 2004 and also appeared on two tracks on the album See You in the Morning by Mint Royale while working as a waitress and in a fishery. Owen Powell of Catatonia and Richard Parfitt of Newport, Gwent band 60ft Dolls, introduced Duffy in August 2004 to former Public Image Ltd. member turned music manager and part-owner of Rough Trade Records Jeanette Lee. Lee moved Duffy to Crouch End in London, and orchestrated a meeting between Duffy and Suede's ex-guitar player Bernard Butler, who then co-wrote with her and helped create a sound that has been compared to Dusty Springfield.

Contracted to A&M Records during 2007, on 23 November 2007, Duffy performed on the BBC2 television show Later with Jools Holland, which resulted in a second appearance on the related New Years Eve show Hootenanny, on which, among other things, she performed with soul legend Eddie Floyd. In January 2008 she was voted second in the annual BBC 6 Music poll of industry experts Sound of 2008, for acts to emerge in the coming year. In Wales she seemed set to become the "pop" equivalent of mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins. A number of commentators have remarked on her unaffected personality and natural charm..
Butler and his musical partner David McAlmont, and a number of other musicians have formed the backbone of Duffy's band for her debut album entitled Rockferry, which is due for release on Polydor on 3 March 2008.

Drew Barrymore Biography

NAME: Drew Barrymore
OCCUPATION: Film Actress
BIRTH DATE: February 22, 1975 (Age: 36)
PLACE OF BIRTH: Los Angeles, California
ZODIAC SIGN: Pisces

Actress. Born Drew Blythe Barrymore, on February 22, 1975, in Los Angeles,California. The daughter of actor John Drew Barrymore Jr. and Ildiko Jaid, Barrymore's great-grandparents were actors Maurice Barrymore and Georgiana Drew, and her grandparents were actors John Barrymore and Dolores Costello. The director Steven Spielberg is her godfather.

Barrymore, a talented young actress, has been as well known for her wild antics off-screen as for her acting ability. Ildiko Jaid, estranged from husband John Barrymore Jr., began taking her daughter to auditions as a baby. The youngest Barrymore appeared in her first television commercial for Puppy Choice dog food before she was a year old.

Actress, producer and director Drew Barrymore rode a career rollercoaster before hitting the age of 25, surviving childhood stardom and adolescent drug addiction - to say nothing of a tragic family legacy of great talent, but also great pain - only to work her way up to Hollywood A-lister. Steven Spielberg's science fiction blockbuster "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial" (1982) first launched the dimpled and precocious seven-year-old, though her image was shattered by tabloid photos of her partying at New York night clubs and three stints in rehab for drug and alcohol addiction by the time she was just 13 years old. Following several years of teen angst typecasting in low-budget features like "Poison Ivy" (1992), Barrymore's big, open smile resurfaced and she was tapped by filmmakers for the free-spirited energy she brought to the screen. A naturally charming lead in romantic comedies, Barrymore won over male and female audiences by playing slightly offbeat but sincere sweethearts in hits like "The Wedding Singer" (1998), "50 First Dates" (2004) and "Music and Lyrics" (2007). Her down-to-earth appeal also led to popularity in empowerment-themed chick flicks, ranging from the melodramatic "Boys on the Side" (1995) to the sublimely fun "Charlie's Angels" film franchise, which she also produced as co-owner of her own Flower Films. Well after her dark years were behind her, Barrymore continued to make entertainment news for the occasional spontaneous nudity incident or whirlwind marriage, but nothing could mar her hard-won status as a perennially popular actress and successful producer-turned-director.

Drea de Matteo Biography

Birth Name: Andrea Donna de Matteo
Birth Place: Queens, NY
Date of Birth / Zodiac Sign: 01/19/1973, Capricorn
Profession: Actress

Drea had only appeared in a couple of guest spots on unmentionable TV shows when she landed the part of the hostess in David Chase's experimental, cutting-edge, modern day mob pilot, "The Sopranos" (HBO 99-). Originally, Drea was going for the role of an "Italian bimbo. " But David didn't think Drea seemed Italian enough so he stuck her in the tiny role of the hostess at the Italian restaurant frequented by the mobsters and their families. As the hostess, she performed her two lines sans the now famous gritty Jersey/New York accent. To her surprise, Drea was called back to take the role of Adriana La Cerva, the uber-moll girlfriend of young mobster Christopher Molesanti. The role was meant to not last more than a few episodes but Drea played the part with such memorable flair that she was soon written in as a fixture on the show. In the following seasons, her influence as Christopher's fiancee continued to grow. Drea also continued to gain fans and secured a bit of a cult following as the quintessential straight-talking, long-nailed tough girl. Her 5'6" lithe tattoo-covered body is a favorite for upscale male magazines as well as local auto body shops. Drea's sharp featured face and leather attire offer an appealing alternative to the wholesome blonde ingenues currently filling the screens. With an attitude to match this razor sharp image, yet a palpable soft side to her demeanor, Drea has carved out the niche of the sexy bad girl with a heart of gold.

De Matteo decided to pursue a directing career at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, perhaps because of the brief moment when, as a girl, she was brought onstage out of the audience and dazzled by the stage lights when she was seeing the play "Cats," perhaps because of her mother's involvement in the entertainment business. Once she was in school, however, it was the acting classes which attracted her greatest interest, and she decided on an acting career. After a screen debut in an obscure independent and a small part in a small movie, Meet Prince Charming (2002), de Matteo auditioned for a one-episode part in the HBO series "The Sopranos" (1999). She impressed the producers enough that they expanded the role, as Adriana La Cerva, girlfriend to up-and-coming Soprano family soldier Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli), and she eventually became a regular on the show. De Matteo had the right sultry beauty to portray Adriana, but her acting skills greatly fleshed out the character, making her as rich and complex a character as a slightly ditzy gangster's girlfriend can be in the first place - humorous, even charming in a way and, ultimately, tragic. She won an Emmy award for her portrayal of Adriana in 2004.
