Born in Buffalo, New York, in August 1981, he was the second of five children. His mother left the family when he was ten years old. Their father, Rex, an air traffic controller, raised them as a solo parent, and money was tight; Murray has said that he was a target for bullies because of the clothes he wore.
At Clarence High School, outside of Buffalo, Murray played football, and one day on the field he suffered a bad hit to the stomach that put him in the hospital. A nurse suggested that he should model, and so Murray signed with a local agency, which eventually sent him to an industry event in Orlando, Florida.
New York native, Chad Michael Murray, has showcased his brooding good looks and acting talents on television sets and silver screens for over a decade. He has been a teen heartthrob on pop culture classics with roles on "Dawson's Creek" (1998), "Gilmore Girls" (2000) and "One Tree Hill" (2003), and his film credits include Freaky Friday (2003), A Cinderella Story (2004) and House of Wax (2005). Now, Murray is gearing up to take his career to the next level. Within the year, he will be starring in Lionsgate's The Haunting in Georgia (2011) and the socially important Indie film, Renee (2012/I) (Kat Dennings, Rupert Friend), with a few other projects in the works. Going round the festival circuit, Chad can also be seen as "Thatcher", the HIV-positive character, in the short film The Carrier (2011) (Rita Wilson, Anna Paquin). Murray will also be releasing "Everlast", his first graphic novel as well. "Everlast" is a passion project of his that tells the story of the tragic hero, "Derek Everlast", as he follows his journey to save the world before the "End of Days".
