Rosamund Pike was born on January 27, 1979, in London, England. The daughter of a prominent opera singer and a concert violinist, Rosamund began playing the piano and cello at an early age, and joined the National Youth Theatre at the age of 16. Following high school, Rosamund Pike attended Oxford University's Wadham College, where she graduated Magnum Cum Laude with a degree in English literature.
Rosamund Pike vaulted from college and a handful of also-ran roles on U.K. television to a dark-horse selection for the role of the latest "Bond girl" in 2002's 007 adventure, "Die Another Day." Pike's pristine beauty would be elegantly displayed in prominent supporting roles in period features such as "The Libertine" (2004) and "Pride and Prejudice" (2005), and she would supplement her film résumé with a bevy of stage work in London's West End district. She took her highest profile role then to date with the would-be sci-fi blockbuster, "Surrogates" (29009), starring opposite Bruce Willis. A former member of the U.K.'s National Youth Theatre and an Oxford University grad, Pike lived down the often two-dimensional typecasting that so often followed James Bond's leading ladies, imprinting herself not only as a multifaceted film actress, but increasingly as a darling of the London stage.
