Irina Lazareanu was born June 8, 1982, in Transylvania, Romania, but emigrated with her family at age 5 to Canada where she was raised in a Montreal suburb. It was there that she first distinguished herself as a dancer, and she left her adopted hometown in 1995 to study ballet at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, England.
Irina Lazareanu will never be mistaken for Gisele Bundchen or Heidi Klum. While she may lack their generous curves and Amazonian appeal, she does possess a uniquely haunting aura and quirky sensibility that have made her a muse to fashion luminaries like Nicholas Ghesquiere and Karl Lagerfeld. Her lithe 32-24.5-34.5 frame and mod appearance have also attracted plenty of ardent paramours like British bad boy Pete Doherty, to whom she was briefly engaged.
When Irina turned seventeen she signed a contract with Giovanni modeling agency, which was based in Montreal, on the hopes that she could earn for her livelihood. However her breakthrough in modeling industry was when she was chosen by Kate Moss to be featured on the cover page for the prestigious Vogue magazine’s issue. Due to her this work she was chosen by fashionistas and she has become a very well known model after that. She even set a new record for doing the maximum number of fashion shows in one season. She is linked with some top level brand names and some very affluent modeling agency. Kate Moss launched her own clothing brand in 2007 for which Irina modeled. She came as a guest judge and to coach the girls in 2009’s Canada’s Next Top Model. She appeared for advertising in Hobbs Spring Summer 2010.
