Chord Overstreet was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to parents Julie and Paul Overstreet. His mother, Julie, is a make-up artist and his father, Paul, is a country musician and songwriter. Chord, and his five siblings, were raised in a creative and music filled environment with their father highly involved in the music industry.
After Chord graduated from high school in 2007, he decided to pursue performing as a career from the encouragement and support of his parents, and from his talent of singing, acting, and playing instruments. Unfortunately, the first two to three years after high school were unsuccessful for Chord; only making small guest appearances on various television shows such as "iCarly" (2007) and "Private" (2009).
Overstreet is best known through his work on the Fox series Glee, which he joined in 2010. His recurring role, Sam Evans, was written as a protege (and later rival) to Cory Monteith's Finn Hudson. Originally slated as a love interest to Chris Colfer's Kurt Hummel, it was later tweaked when producers saw the chemistry between him and co-star Dianna Agron. He left the show at the end of the second season, when he decided to pursue a music career.
On July 1, 2011, TVLine's Michael Ausiello broke the news that Overstreet's contract option to become a series regular on Glee had not been picked up for season 3, but that he could possibly come back as an occasional guest star. In reaction to the announcement, fans launched a campaign to promote Overstreet's cover of "Billionaire" and various tags related to the actor, most notably "#dontcutthechord",[20] began trending on Twitter. The song made its way into the iTunes Top 5 "Glee" charts during the campaign.
