One of the more popular "tweener" stars during the 2000s, Toledo native Alyson Stoner followed the path of many a 21st century ingenue by entering show business courtesy of Disney. Born in August 1993, Stoner began performing at the age of three, with jazz, tap, and ballet classes at O'Connell's Dance Studio in Holland, OH; she also modeled from the age of six, courtesy of Toledo's Margaret O'Brien Modeling Studio. Stoner's laurels in a number of related New York competitions convinced her parents to whisk her off to Los Angeles, where she signed with an agent and began landing acting parts in numerous productions.

While growing up, she studied ballet, tap, and jazz dancing at the O'Connell's Dance Studio in her hometown. She also modeled and trained at the Margaret O'Brien Modeling Studio there. She even attended the IMTA Convention in New York City with Ms.O'Brien's studio in 2000, and she won many awards in acting, modeling, and dance. After this, Alyson decided to try hip-hop dancing. She moved to LA and trained with such well-known choreographers as Wade Robson, Fatima, and Hi Hat. She auditioned and was cast to dance in the Missy 'Misdemeanor' Elliott videos "Work It" and "Gossip Folks." Because of these videos, Alyson has been in demand by such media outlets as "Extra" (1994), "The Maury Povich Show" (1991), "Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (2003), and magazines such as "YM" and "M." She performed on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (1992), and with 'Missy 'Misdemeanor' Elliott' at the 2003 American Music Awards, on "MTV's Fashionably Loud," and Seattle's Radio Concert. Not only is Alyson a talented dancer, she is also the co-host of the Disney Channel's "Super Short Show" (2002), an infomercial segment that sells upcoming DVD and Video releases of Disney features.

Stoner has also recently gone into voice acting, providing her voice for characters in the 2004 film Garfield, as well as on the animated series Lilo & Stitch: The Series and, more recently, as Isabella on Phineas and Ferb. Her recent credits include the lead role in the straight-to-DVD film Alice Upside Down, and the Disney Channel television film Camp Rock, where she stars alongside the Jonas Brothers.

These initial projects laid down a pattern that Stoner followed in successive years, wherein she alternated between vocal work -- on several Holly Hobbie & Friends releases and various other projects -- and live-action parts, such as a supporting role in the Disney Channel telemovie musical Camp Rock (2008). In summer 2008, she starred in the "dance video hybrid" The Alyson Stoner Project. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi.
