Date of Birth / Zodiac Sign: 03/25/1989, Aries
Profession: Actress, singer, musician

American actress and singer Alyson Michalka was born on March 25, 1989, in Torrance, California, but she grew up in Seattle, Wash. She started acting when she was five years old, playing the piano since she was six and playing guitar since thirteen. Alyson is a member of the musical duo Aly & A.J. with her younger sister Amanda Joy.

Alyson began acting at the age of five in stage productions by churches her family attended outside Seattle, Washington, and in Thousand Oaks California. She was featured in numerous musicals including "Jailhouse Rock" and "A Time to Remember". Alyson, who plays piano and guitar, also writes music and sings with her younger sister, Amanda Michalka, as the pop-music duo of Aly & AJ. The sisters are platinum selling recording artists with "Hollywood Records". When she isn't acting, Alyson enjoys drawing. Her artistic talent was recognized by Hallmark Cards. When she was in the fourth grade, she won a contest for a Christmas card in 1999, when she was 10. Lately, Alyson is interested in fashion and sewing, and has plans to design a clothing line. The Torrance, California, native has two dogs, Saint and Bandit, and lives with her parents and sister in Los Angeles, California.

Just when Michalka's acting career blossomed, she took on another ambitious project. Alongside her younger sister Amanda, the duo formed the pop/rock music group, Aly & AJ, and released their debut album Into the Rush in 2005.

In an effort to prove they had matured and evolved since their debut album, Aly & AJ announced in 2008 that the group had changed its name to 78Violet. The sisters also ventured into solo projects, including Michalka's starring role opposite "High School Musical" (2006) star Vanessa Hudgens in the coming-of-age film, "Bandslam" (2009). Michalka played a popular cheerleader who joins a struggling indie rock band made up of her school's outsiders. She further pushed away from her Disney Channel persona with a pair of more mature projects in 2010 - the dark teen comedy "Easy A," a feature film about a high school student (Emma Stone) who uses a malicious rumor to advance her social status, and the television comedy/drama "Hellcats." In the latter, Michalka starred as Marti, a tough-as-nails pre-law college student in Memphis, TN who loses her scholarship and ends up joining her university's cheer team. Her character finds not everything is pep and pizzazz in cheerleading after clashing with team captain Savannah, played by another Disney alum, Ashley Tisdale. The series was based on journalist Kate Torgovnick's 2008 book, Cheer: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders.
