Adam Sandler Biography and Filmography

Adam Sandler Biography and Filmography

The comedian, screen actor, screenwriter, entrepreneur, film producer, and musician Adam Sandler was born into a Jewish working-class family in the New York borough of Brooklyn.

Name at Birth : Adam Richard Sandler

Height: 5' 10" (1.77m)
Parents: Stanley Sandler, Judy Sandler
Spouse: Jackie Sandler (m. 2003-present)
Children: Sunny Madeline Sandler, Sadie Madison Sandler

Sandler was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1966, the son of Judy, a nursery school teacher, and Stanley Sandler, an electrical engineer. His family is Jewish, descending from immigrants from Russia on both sides. When he was five, his family moved to Manchester, New Hampshire where he attended Manchester Central High School. After graduation, he became a regular on MTV's game show, Remote Control. In 1989, he starred in his first film, Going Overboard. He was later spotted by Saturday Night Live cast member Dennis Miller who got him a job on the show, which lasted from 1990 to 1995. It was there that Sandler created such characters as Cajun Man, Opera Man and Canteen Boy.

In 2009, he went on to star in director Judd Apatow's comedy ‘Funny People’ alongside Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann and followed this with ‘Grown Ups’. The latter saw him team up once more with Kevin James, as well as Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider, and was a commercial success.

Sandler’s private life appears to be happy and contented. In 2003, he married his girlfriend of four years’ standing, actress and model Jacqueline Titone. She gave birth to a baby girl called Sadie in May 2006. But Sandler’s relationship with the print media is far from harmonious. Indeed, Sandler became so tired of being misquoted in the press that he now totally refuses to give interviews to newspapers and magazines, and even only occasionally agrees to give interviews on TV. This reluctance to talk to the print media has earned Sandler the nickname 'The Goofball Garbo' - but since he’s now appeared in no less than seven films that have grossed in excess of $100 million, he certainly doesn’t need the publicity.

Regardless of the occasional accusations of typecasting, one thing is certain: thanks to Sandler’s ability to amuse and entertain us while delivering substantial box-office revenues, we’ll be seeing him in starring Hollywood roles for a considerable time to come.

On June 22, 2003, Sandler married actress Jacqueline Samantha Titone. Titone converted to Sandler's religion, Judaism, in 2000. The couple has two daughters: Sadie Madison Sandler (born 2006) and Sunny Madeline Sandler (born 2008). Sandler lives with his family in Los Angeles, but also owns homes in New York City and Florida.
