Keri Hilson was born on December 5, 1982 and grew up near Atlanta, Georgia. Becoming an active participant in extracurricular activities such as swimming and basketball, she at the age of fourteen joined a band called D'Sign, who were unfortunately dropped from their label before recording an album.
t was only during the year 2001, however, when she began to write songs for the big names in the music industry. It all started when she got a deal to help Ciara, together with Sean Garrett, wherein they came up with the single: "Oh Baby". Ever since that year, Keri Hilson has been doing various song-writing for artists. Hilson has written for Britney Spears, The Pussycat Dolls, Chingy, Kelly Rowland, Timbaland, etc. She also is known as a talented person who also does arranging and background singing, usually for most of the songs she has created.
Hilson has always been contented in staying behind the scenes until she was featured, in 2004, for Xzibit's "Hey Now (Mean Muggin')", his first single from the album: "Weapons of Mass Destruction". Hilson also made her first live performance at MTV's Europe Awards of the same year, wherein she performed with Xzibit.
Keri remained behind the scenes until 2006 when Timbaland recognized her huge talent as a singer and so signed her to his newly-formed Interscope associated label Mosley music Group. She then cooked up new materials with the rapper for her debut studio album.
