Emily Browning always knew she was going to be an artist. From an early age, the Australian-born actress took an interest in subjects like English literature, photography and design before ultimately settling on the dramatic arts. When she was just eight, Browning was noticed by her classmate’s father while performing in a school play. Impressed by her natural talent, he convinced her to pursue acting as a career, and so she did, landing roles in the 1998 Hallmark Channel movie The Echo of Thunder and the television series Blue Heelers and Something in the Air.

This native of Melbourne, Australia began acting in school plays and decided by the age of eight that she wanted to become a professional actress. Her first onscreen job was in the Hallmark Hall of Fame TV movie The Echo of Thunder (1998), playing the daughter of Judy Davis' character. She shared a Young Artist Award nomination for "Best Performance in a TV Movie—Young Ensemble" with three other kid actors in the film.

Whether she was portraying a young ghost with a secret, or a mental patient with wild fantasies, Emily Browning delivered a searing range of emotions that always left an indelible mark on audiences. After padding her résumé with a number of recurring roles on television dramas in her native Australia, she starred in the horror film "Ghost Ship" (2002), as a young girl who died on a cruise ship. Yet, it was her portrayal of a resourceful orphan in the film version of the popular book series "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" (2004) that made her a star across the pond. In 2011, Browning became all the rage in Hollywood as a fiercely imaginative mental asylum patient in "Sucker Punch," a role that challenged her physically and emotionally, and launched her as one of the most promising and versatile actresses of her generation.
