Jessie J Biography

The Brit behind Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A", Jessie J, has stepped out into the light to claim her own fame. Born Jessica Ellen Cornish on March 27, 1988, Jessie knew that she had art running through her blood. After attending Colins Performing Arts, Jessie was cast at Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End play "Whistle Down the Wind" at the age of 11.

She went through High School and began channeling down her talent again when completing her study at the BRIT school and joining an-all girl group. Although she's in the entertainment business, she is far from the wild life full of drugs and alcohol. That is due to the health condition that she has. Irregular heartbeat and a minor stroke at the age of 18 forced her to hinder these things.

Early Life

Jessie J was born Jessica Ellen Cornish in Redbridge, London. She attended Colins Performing Arts. She was cast as an eleven year old in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s West End production of Whistle Down the Wind. Educated at Mayfield High School in the London Borough of Redbridge. Unlike her academic sisters, Cornish has stated she was “never really that good at anything”. She said “At school they were like ‘oh, you’re a Cornish girl’ and they kind of expected me to be the same as my sisters. Give me something to draw or an outfit to pick for someone,

In 2005, Jessie began writing her first album and stated that it was completed January 19, 2011. Towards the end of 2010, Jessie released her debut single "Do It Like A Dude" and it peaked at the number 2 spot on the UK Singles chart. When she released her next single "Price Tag" in January 2011, it quickly rose to number 1 on the UK Singles chart. It remained in this spot for two weeks before Adele's single "Someone Like You" took its place. "Price Tag" was released in the U.S. in February 2011. The song made it to #88 on the Billboard Hot 100, but hit the #1 spot in Scotland, New Zealand and Ireland. Jessie J made her first U.S. television appearance on Saturday Night Live March 12, 2011.

Jessie J also signed a publishing contract with Sony ATV, and she set about to gain songwriting success. She worked writing music for Chris Brown and others. Then the opportunity came to co-write the song "Party In the USA." Miley Cyrus recorded the song and it hit #2 in the US giving Jessie J a significant break in the business.

Following the songwriting success Jessie J signed a worldwide recording contract with the Universal Music Group. Her first single "Do It Like a Dude," a song originally intended for Rihanna, was released in November 2010 in the UK. It promptly hit #2 on the UK pop singles chart. At the end of the year Jessie J topped the BBC's Sound of 2011 list, and then it was announced that she would receive the Brit Awards Critics' Choice honor. A second single "Price Tag," with a featured rap from B.o.B. and produced by Dr. Luke, appeared in January 2011. It debuted at #1 on the UK pop singles chart and became Jessie's J first release to break into the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
